The Oosten, on South Williamsburg’s district, is a perfect mix between old and new Brooklyn.
Bricks and dark gray framing windows compose the facades in a modern interpretation of the old neighborhood’s industrial style.
Dutch designer Piet Boon used clean, streamlined elements – concrete and steel – for the Oosten’s seven different units to create stunning variations of the facades. The complex melts itself in the surrounding greens of parks and trees, gaining an almost natural feeling.
With dark gray-framed windows set against red bricks, the 7-story complex is a modern take on the industrial warehouse buildings of the neighborhood.
The walls surrounding the vast interior courtyard are composed of white bricks, maximizing the light around the gardens, and creating a bright outdoor space.
The result is a distinctive and modern, comfortable and timeless place, with an atmosphere that will endure years to come
“Oosten is almost a small village. It offers an interesting mix of spaces which will create a diverse community. It is this diversity and the introduction of some typical Dutch elements such as gardens and greens and facilities for your bike, which makes Oosten a really great place to live.”
Piet Boon brought a Dutch sensibility to the project – he calls it “barefoot chic” – sophisticated but in a relaxed way.
The rising starchitect is a top choice amongst developers who want more than just a glass tower, but desire a building that promotes well-being through great design.
AZA US designed, engineered, and fabricated 95,000 Sq Ft of window wall system and stick built storefront.
The complex required the fabrication of 1,150 parallel projecting windows, window wall units with an extremely high variety of glass sizes, external vertical aluminum fins, and punch windows with external integrated aluminum fins.
The slab cover extrusion was customized, while the unitized curtain wall reached an acoustic performance of 31 and 33 OITC: an obvious requirement to assure the maximum living comfort possible.
